Vault of Halloween

  • All Vaults of Midnight Everywhere (map)

It's Halloween again. Being our least favorite holiday, Vault of Midnight annually exerts the least amount of effort possible to throw a modest, mild soiree in honor of the occasion.

FALSE.

Come on, dudes. We love Halloween. This is the one time of year we get to don our creepiest cosplays while handing out (but mostly eating) copious amounts of candy. And did we mention we give away free comics? What's not to love?

And you can bet this year's celebration will be the most "spooktacular" yet. Like, it's seriously going to be a really big deal. Look what's happening at these respective Vaults of Midnight:

ANN ARBOR

Costume Contest
Saturday, October 29th, 12 - 9pm

Come watch as Vault of Midnight gets invaded by masked heroes, probably some spooky ghosts, and at least one Harley Quinn. Starting at Noon, Vault Staff will be on hand to take photos of you in your amazing costume. All photos will be entered in our costume contest and the winners will be announced in the coming days.

This year we will be judging both an adult and kids category (we got pretty tired of all the adults crying about how great the kids' costumes were). Prizes will be given out for the top three costumes in each group.

Main Street Treat Parade
Monday, October 31st, 11 - 5pm

The Treat Parade is a big deal in Ann Arbor. Going on it's sixteenth year, participating businesses on and around Main Street will be marked with black and orange balloons. Enter these shops and treats a plenty will rain down upon you. Vault of Midnight will be handing out spooky comics in addition to the tasty treats.

Families can get an early start on the day by heading over to the Ann Arbor District Library on S. Fifth Ave. for a Halloween Party on the first floor from 10:30 - 11am and  noon - 12:30pm.

See all the local participating business and get additional information on the Treat Parade by checking in with the Main Street Area Association.

DETROIT

Superhero Factory

Friday, October 28th, 5-8pm

We know you guys are superheroes already, but we’d like to help finesse your costume. Come decorate capes and masks with your Vault of Midnight pals, get chased by zombies, check out an awesome quiet space spiderweb room, bowl with pumpkins, and dance like a mummy right across the street at the Boll Family YMCA for their annual Halloween at the Y. The event is totally free for everyone, YMCA members or not, and will provide healthy snacks and treats at Downtown Detroit’s biggest Halloween house of fun and (little) horrors!

After you assemble your mask, cape, and superhero team, walk down the block to Vault of Midnight to snag some silly and spooky selections of free Halloween comics. Tricks, treats, and superhero feats: the perfect start to a great Halloween weekend!

GRAND RAPIDS

Costume Contest
Saturday, October 22 through Halloween!

What could be more fun than picking up your favorite comics in your favorite Halloween costume, Grand Rapids Comic-Con cosplay, or maybe just clothes you wear every day which other people mistakenly label as a costume? Either way, strike a pose in front of our front window mural in the week leading up to Halloween and snap a photo of your spooky finery. Post it on our Facebook page and be automagically entered to win a Vault of Midnight gift card and other fun surprises! There will be 3 winners in both the adults and kids categories, and winners will be announced shortly after Halloween.

Downtown Trick or Treat Fest!
Thursday, October 27, 5-9pm

Families can stop by the Grand Rapids Children's Museum any time after 5pm to decorate a treat bag, create spooky art projects, and experiment with monster slime! All Trick or Treat activities are included with the museum's $1.75 admission. Then, continue the fun by trick or treating down Monroe Center where select businesses will be open late to offer treats to tiny ghouls and goblins. Participating businesses will be marked with an orange balloon!

Not to be outdone by the delectable treats and samples offered by our neighbors, Vault of Midnight will be handing out free kids comics and candy from 5-10pm.

Even More Free Comics, Now for Adults!
Halloween, Monday, October 31

For spook-seekers of the elder variety, we'll be offering the free-est of comics for ages 13+ on Monday! We might even have some candy left if staff hasn't eaten it all (no promises).
